Why I like the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic

What’s prompted me to write this article is I’m 56 years of age. I bought my first mobile phone some 20 years ago and I’ve had numerous cell phones since. As far as I was concerned if I was out and about in a car it was a means of someone getting in touch with me or me getting in touch with them, end of story, and some times I didn’t want anyone to get in touch with me, so that was an inconvenience.

O! It could tell me the time as well.

Texting: couldn’t be bothered (scared really), I’ll phone instead; but it’s cheaper to text; I’m not that hard up, and so on; besides I use to watch my three sons texting it was all to fast and my fingers where bigger than theirs, I kept touching other buttons, it was so frustrating. Scared: seems funny really, because my fingers I’d go off into the bowels of the phone not knowing where I’d end up and the scared part was when I got back would I be able to make a phone call.

Not any more!

I’m not that old to realize that there a great invention and I’d rather have than have not. I kept saying to my Mrs, Her who must be obeyed, Her in doors, Dirty Dee (she cheats at cards); “I’m sick of this mobile phone it’s to small, buttons and all” “I’ll do the renewing at the end of the contract” and so the day came. I’m a member of ‘Which?’ the on line consumer magazine. Which I highly recommend to anyone: The opening statement on their website is;

What ever I’m thinking of buying; I go on line to ‘Which?’, and you can bet they’ve tested it, and they give you a rating for the top 4 or 5 products sometimes more; you don’t have to even think about it. In the past I’ve gone to 4 or 5 shops weighing up the product and listening to numerous sales people telling me just how good it is and why I should by it.

Not with which their totally bias and tell it like it is; you get the good and the bad with every product, but there’s always one that comes out on top.

The on/off switch is a sliding button on the side and as you hold the phone as normal your thumb automatically lands on the switch you just move the button towards you a touch and it’s on, and using the same procedure to turn it off; it feels like turning a light on and off not thinking have I turn it off or will it come on in my pocket if I hit some other button; when it’s off it’s off.

The 5800 is a good size and so easy to use; most of the phones I’ve had in the passed I had to hold in my left hand and operate the functions with my right; I more or less carried out all the functions I needed holding it in my right hand just using my thumb before I even looked at the instruction book.

Touch Screen and Swipe

Simple WYSIWYG, when you see what you want on the screen, just touch the screen. For large lists and numerous photos you can swipe the screen with your finger from left to right or up and down, and yes as I mentioned I’m now in the world of texting; so it’s worked out even less expensive than it’s ever been for me.

When texting you can turn the phone side ways and have the digits horizontally just like a key board so you can actually use two hands to text, well two fingers, and the buttons are just the right size. I think mobile phone companies where in a big race to see who could produce the smallest phone at one stage; you can only go so far before it becomes unrealistic.

Using the camera is simple, as your looking at the front of the phone the depress button which takes the picture is on the right, side, of the camera you just press it once as if taking a photo and your in camera mode the next time you press it you will take a picture. With Internet Access, Mapping, Camera, Texting, Radio, you can plug in head phones and it’s also got built-in stereo speakers and lots lots more. For me: the easiest to use out there.
